An investment is not a failure if it doesn't produce immediate returns. The 360 introduced ads into XBL, turned standards such as hdds into accesories. If you want to talk about failures, the Dreamcast was a failure. The Xbox lost money but if it truly failed then why would Microsoft of all people release the Xbox 360, Hope? Without the Xbox, the Xbox 360 would've flopped hard, to ignore the effect of the gamecube or the xbox on the industry is to ignore reality. That is not total failure.

It did FAIL. Microsoft created the xbox 360 in HOPE of it achieving better results and they were partly lucky in that regard since Sony screwed up royally. Both the xbox and gamecube were irrelevant on it's affect to the industry. How can you claim that the original xbox ISN'T a failure when it was a loser in every aspect ? Both the original xbox and the gamecube had NO influence to the future.

Last generation was a fluke, the effect of a fad that not only does not have a precesdent but has yet to be replicated. Its not just about profits and loses.

The fact that you claim the WII to be a fad must mean that you need to educate yourself on what that term means because you really don't what a fad is.

How much market share did the Xbox have before it released?

How is this relevant ?

Do you realize the failure in your reasoning, suggesting that because it didn't meet your arbitrary standards it was a failure?

What arbritrary standards ?! It's a simple fact that both gamecube and original xbox were failures and there is nothing you or the stigmatized gaming community can do to change that.

Perhaps you have insider information about Nintendo and Xbox, with statements from them suggesting such.
