 I just want to point out: this is *precisely* what the original poster was talking about.  Regardless of how much you could care for Mario games, they're consistently top-sellers, and always push consoles.

Yep, TP and SMG are the reasons I bought a Wii. I really don't care much about most of the other offerings for the system but I won't deny that Super Smash Bros. will be huge for the system.

Though I think that many people here are overrating the MP series. While they're good games, they're not in the same league of sales as TLZ, SMG, and SSB.
