My friend has been hunting since has was 5, and he knows his guns. I didn't start hunting until I was in High School, with him (and I still do it only rarely), and during this time the two of us and maybe a few others would drive up to his camp in the woods, alone, and go hunting, or just shoot random stuff for the hell of it. During our trips if somebody pointed a gun at somebody else even once, my friend would beat the crap out of them, and wouldn't let them carry a gun for the rest of the trip.
Proper knowledge of gun safety is all that is necessary to prevent accidental deaths. Even immature high schoolers like us were just fine, because one of us knew what the hell he was doing, and knew just what guns are capable of.
