EA deal was based on an estimation that XBO and PS4 would be similar in sells and X360 owns NA where FPS dominates. It was a safe risk to make and ask for $$$ cash to cover the assumed range of PS sales.
That's a risk every company makes with exclusives. Unfortunately EA drank the MS cool-aid and that shit had a bad aftertaste. Now PS4 is dominating world-wide and while Titanfall will surely do well and be profitable, EA realizes they could have made significantly more by making it non-exclusive.
All this will do in the long run is prevent anyone from really wanting to go exclusive, especially on MS hardware. However, if PS4 keeps selling at this near-Wii and PS2 pace while Wii U and XBO stagnate, expect to see 3rd parties overwhelmingly willing to go exclusive on PS4 over the next few years.
This coming holiday will likely seal that fate. |
EA could always do what capcom did to Nintendo during the gamecube era with its "exclusive" games and decide its better to break the contract and sell thier games on competing hardware.

If EA broke the contract, they would make the money lost by the suit in about a week worst case scenario.
I think the PR would be more damaging in this day and age, but then again EA has been voted worst company in america twice in a row.

i dont know if the PR would be damaging at all to EA it would be more damage to MS, and i could see the headlines about EA not believeing in the X1 sales ability and so on.
