Lauren Cooper's parents were worried about her. They hadn't heard from her. They couldn't reach her, so they decided to go to her apartment at the Villas of Kennesaw and check on her at Sunday night around 7 p.m.
When they entered her apartment, they found her body and called 911. Also in the apartment, the body of 31-year-old Kendrick Ledet of Smyrna.
Police say Ledet and Cooper were former co-workers and had a relationship of some kind but would not elaborate. They say Ledet was likely at Cooper's apartment since Friday or Saturday and that there was no sign of forced entry.
However at some point, police say he raped Cooper, a Kennesaw State University student, and strangled her to death. A few hours later they say he killed himself by cutting the veins in his arms, bleeding to death.

The Kennesaw Police department is investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide that happened Sunday evening in Kennesaw. While that much is known, there are still questions that remain unanswered.
Sunday night, crime scene tape surrounded a home in the quiet English Oaks Subdivision off Jiles Road. Investigators came and went from the two-story stone and siding house that, until six months ago, was in foreclosure.
Neighbors said that's when a nice woman from Jamaica moved in with her boyfriend. They were friendly, but not seen often, except when she was working on the yard.
Kennesaw Police say around 4 p.m. Sunday the 39-year-old boyfriend called 911 saying he'd shot and killed his girlfriend and was going to kill himself. When police arrived at the home they found her dead. He barely had a pulse. He later died at the hospital.
