your scenario #4 is VERY naive. why do you think that criminal is carrying a gun? so that his sentence is automatically uped for using a firearm to commit a felony? or maybe it has something to do with the motto "leave no witnesses" and he was just hoping that no one was home. or maybe he is drugged out of his mind and isnt even considering long term ramifications of his actions and it that case he wouldnt hesitate at all to put a bullet in your skull then rape your wife then put a bullet in her head as well. thats hell, why risk hell?
those scenarios too likely to leave it to the "smile & be real polite to the guy pointing a gun at me" strategy. I'm going with the own a handgun and KNOW how to responsibily and effictively use it.
