What bugs me is when it seems like the only storyline that gay characters get is their sexuality. I know gay people can go through a lot of struggles regarding their sexual identity, but those aren't the only problems or aspects about their lives!
I like how The Walking Dead does it, both in the show and in the comics. It's part of their lives, but that's not their central definition of themselves, much like how straight people don't centralize their identity for their heterosexuality.

Well it may be a little single dimensional to define people solely on their sexual orientation, but I think that given the level of sexualization and attention people get when they come out of the closet in the USA (Here in Canada I don't feel it's such a big deal most of the time, maybe in the more conservative regions it's different)... That mentality makes it somewhat of a thing, I only hope it was portrayed, or sometimes completely ignored, as in many games the story is barely there, why would a character appear "gay", where you make your own it really makes no difference as it's not always written in someone's face what their preferences are, or if they have any such preferences at all.

For the regular heteros, it's easy to forget how present this is, but parents push their kids to make babies, get a partner of the opposite sex, there are tons of homophobes politicians in the news all the time... The straigh way of life is being pushed on us, wether or not we like it, some will try to conform to the norm, by will or by force, leading to unhappy life, trying to hide to them and their loved ones who they really are and making relationships that fall out of the expected behavious unbalanced because they must remain secret.
