The number of TVs/DVD players sold to consumers is not really as important as the number of consoles sold, as it has no affect on DVD releases for each system. Warner for instance can't say that they will only release a movie for Panasonic DVD players and not Samsung as both are interchangable from a consumer point of view. The same cannot be said of consoles. |
At this point, it really doesn't matter in the console world either (at least not this generation). There will be enough PS3's and 360's to assume everyone third party will make games for them, unless one of the console manufactures pays them a fortune.
As far as the numbers go, it's just for bragging rights. All consoles succeeded this generation. No winner is needed.
