dogs are a bad example - their "races/breeds" are close to being different species, because in quite many cases they don't produce fertile offsprings- definition of different biospecies is , that they can't produce fertile offsprings, like for example donkies and horses - they can produce offsprings (mules) , but those can't reproduce
and Samuel .. a breed is something totally different than a race, because races stem from undirected evolution, while breeds are deliberately made by humans with special purposes in mind
