So far I’ve only been able to put a few hours into the game. My initial impression is the game is really fun and lives up to the 86 metascore. I’m not sure how much I would rate this game personally haven’t put in enough time. Here my first impression of Titan Fall:
My first session, I spent most of my time with the Xbox One initial update and installing Titan fall. By the time I finally got the game running, I only had 45 min before I had to leave the home. In any other game, I would have skipped any tutorials and simply played single player for a while. But, since Titan Fall doesn’t have a single player mode, I wind up starting the training session and skipped it once I was able to wall run. **Word of advice do not skip the training session**
Once, I finally got a game of attribution started and I got drop into a game that had already started. Titan fights were happening all around me, you immediately get a sense that you need to get into cover. I dashed for the nearest building. Once I got inside I did the noob thing to do and wind up running around killing grunts and specters until an opponent’s pilot found me and snap my neck. Watching video online you don’t really get a sense of what the game truly feels like. The AI bots running around really create a sense of confusion and immerses you into the battlefield.
You quickly realize that the grunt and specters aren’t really a threat and can be ignored; enemy pilot by now had got the better of me a few times. Having no knowledge of the map I had spent most of my time indoor not wanting to go up against enemy Titan as inexperience pilot in the open battlefield. I started ignoring grunts and specters and tried hunting down enemy pilots but it was pretty obvious that they all had played in the Beta I was getting my ass kicked. Thing weren’t good I felt totally lost and overwhelm just like any other call of duty game. I knew I was in for a rough time ahead but that’s when this game reminds you that this is not COD and you hear the magic words “Your Titan is Ready”.
I immediately went outside and call down my Titan in an isolated area of the map, at this point I had no idea how it would be like to play as Titan in a FPS. It was very liberating, thinking back now it gave me the feeling of taking a break from the FPS game I was playing. Being inside a Titan you can’t be one shot killed anymore and you’re not as vulnerable as when you were a Pilot. It was very nice not having the sense of immediate death around the next corner. The controls of the Titan immediately felt natural.
I must have got lucky but my first time in a Titan was great. I started by doing the noob thing again killed any grunts that was around me. Then this is when you realize how vulnerable Pilots that are caught in the open are against Titan. I wind up crushing an enemy pilot that didn’t see me coming and gunned down a pilot that was caught out in the open. As I turned the next corner, I engage an enemy Titan that was already heavily damage didn’t take long to get my first Titan Kill. Immediately after that I got surrounded by two enemy titans and they sent me into critical mode. I really enjoyed how you’re able to eject and your time as a titan is over but you’re actually happy and feeling refreshed to take on the role of a pilot again.
Closing initial impression:
1. You realized that your actually missing the extended training session that is the single player.
2. I love how this game really penalizes players that try to play it like any other COD game.
3. Titan are great and you’re very vulnerable as pilot, you really need to get use to your jump pack, cloaking ability and taking to the high ground.
4. After playing a few hours the action is so frantic, I can’t believe that it’s actually 6 vs 6.
5. This game is just really fun, the graphics were good but dint feel amazing. I was too busy engaging with the game to even pay attention to the graphics.
6. Once you get caught as a pilot surrounded by enemy titans ….. you feel like it’s a war zone
