"Oculus Rift-beating VR headset" Doubtful...

because sony is not a technology company that spend millions and millions on R&D and do not have any previous experience with VR, none, nothing, nope.

They are, of course. But they can't do wonders within a certain price range. I followed a lot of twitter accounts around Oculus and there are very talented guys working on the tech behind Oculus with many smart techniques to make people not get headaches or make them puke, for example. Very, very complex math behind all this, leave aside the hardware which is needed for it.

I don't say Sony won't deliver a good VR experience although we have yet to see it. But I think that

a) the hardware of Oculus will be a lot better than Sony's solution just because of the price

b) the experience with Oculus will be a lot better because of the manpower and intelligence put into the project

b) is of course just a guess from me - we will see how it will turn out.

The Rift is conceptualized as a pretty affordable piece of new tech at initially $300, maybe now trending more towards $400 for the consumer version. While this is a good price point for Sony to gun for aswell i think there also is the option for them to go with a $500-600 pricepoint but either beating the Rift to the market with very similar specs or being a higher priced, but higher quality alternative (higher res screen etc.) for the even more enthusiastic VR fan.

Either way I hope Sony made sure they are compatible with the foundation Oculus laid out with the Rift dev kit 1, so that we don't have a situation with several different standards.

I don't doubt that the Oculus guys are very smart, but I don't think they have an inherent advantage over Sony's R&D there.
