I think VR will be the new tablet. Slow start, then a ridiculous explosion in popularity.

hm.. I do think word of mouth could be extremely positive, if they put out a good quality unit and games manage to use it adequately even with the limited hardware of the PS4, but the first few years might see pretty slow adoption

I don't know if there will be an "explosion" afterwards, but I do imagine quite a few people will stay with VR, as it  has enourmos potential to enhance the experience and slowly the base of convinced people will increase making it a viable platform a few years down the line

Sony is right in not pushing that to hard into its devepers teams, but that´s the same risk of a Kinect 360 effect, when part of the user base was segregrated from the feature/device.

VR works very well with traditional games, almos any 3D and even some 2D titles could support it's use, but to have a good experience the devs need to make some adjustments - that shouldn't influence the regular gaming experience though

so, the main risk of this is that it needs extra dev time, which many won't put in

I think atleast at first it could be mainly used by indies as a tool to seperate themselves from the crowd and address the small, but enthusiastic VR fanbase, but in some years it might actually have grown enough for 3rd party "AAA" titles to consider providing this option

VR only ware will be almost nonexistant for PS4 though.
