Ultimately, I don't have a huge problem with it. All DLC is optional. If I feel like I get ripped off, nobody's forcing me at gunpoint to buy it.

Also, I don't necessarily agree that all day 1 DLC should have been included on disc. There's a lot of time between the game being "finished" and being released. If the developer felt that this time could be spent working on extra content, I see no reason why it shouldn't be paid for.

That said, I miss the days of expansions. You only get them for MMOs these days, it seems.

Most games tend to be gone gold "finished" most likely 2-3 months before retail date. Do you think that day 1 DLC is built in that 2-3 month span ?

I believe some can be, yes.  Others, maybe not.  I'm sure it varies from game to game and developer to developer.  A lot of developers probably start with the intention of creating new content in time for release. Some get made in time for day one, some don't.  And you probably get other developers who have the content guys working on stuff before the game goes gold.  And then you probably have developers who deliberately cut shit out of the game to make extra cash.  I don't like painting everything with a wide stroke.
