Actually, it's not a Castlevania game.  The first game was already done.  It was cancellled, they pitched the idea as Castlevania.  Renamed the characters names from Castlevania games, changed the lore to Castlevania, etc.  Here is the original trailer back before the IP was cancelled.

That's not I read. I read that the game was always a Castlevania, but they purposely only left the sub title so it could be judged without the weight of the Castlevania name getting in the way. Regardless, it doesnt matter though. It is wearing the Castlevania name and the expectations come with that. That applies to every IP. The is kinda the problem with Japan and their handling of their IP's, they think its just and name that they can drop any game. IP names just easy ways to describe the ideas behind that series
