Well, microsoft is in an awkward spot with their business. Their core business is windows/pc market. So, if they want to keep people buying pc's to play games they need to make sure they support pc's. However, they also have a gaming console to support. In some ways, the two could be seen as competing products and it is never good when a company is competing against itself.

It is actually pretty amazing that microsoft is even in the gaming industry. Entering the console market was more about defending their supplementary business rather than their core business. Shows a disturbing lack of forsight that they viewed sony as a big rival with the gaming market and yet they never saw apple coming with the mobile market.

Now, that being said I love microsofts consoles and i love them being in the game industry. I'm just saying it was probably some poor business decisions that lead them to enter the gaming market directly...

I love Xbox too, but I just see that PC compites with 360 sometimes, and the one that takes advantage from this is Sony. Minus value for your console means the competition has better deals to offer.
