In the gaming industry, deep plots are pretentious and full of nonsense, specially in JRPG's. There is no message that the game can send to us when we are more focused on the tits of the main female protagonist or on the sexual innuendo from the cutscenes.

I do like having good characters but it's better to keep the plot simple. The Tales of series for example, get the characters right most of the time (and the battle system too!) but the plot is full of terms and complicated stuff that only serve to confuse. Specially because we are always introduced to exotic terms at the beggining of the game and you have to wait hours to understand what that exotic word meant.

Put a spoiler tag for "Tales of the Abyss".

They took it way too fucking far with that one.

Indeed! You read my mind, I was going to put an example from Tales of the Abyss!

All Tales of games are full of those things though, Xillia has it moments too but it doesn't take nearly as much time to understand some of the terms.
