Many Russians lives there. West Ukraine is poor as a church mouse. How many billions Ukraine needs in 2014 alone ? Over 35 billions. + 1.5 billion every year for Russian gas ( they buy but do not pay ) Thats why they wanna to join EU - they needs money asap. They're not that poor. They have natural resources recently discovered that resulted in contract for exploration by Exxon and Shell. When does it begin nobody knows.
Gazprom has been shady since 2001 and Europe and Ukraine has been trying to find alternative to their corruptive business practices.
