You're to young to understand. Settlers was all about building roads. Until Settlers 3 where they fucked this game badly.

Settlers 1 and 2 are more about logistics than war or strategy.

I'm too young? I played the original settlers 2, when it first came out. you built NO roads.

Wait, no, you're right. The roads were made by using flags.

However, IIRC highly traveled roads were colored differently, and you could get rid of roads that weren't being traveled.
