That falls under the "WTF happened to the old Republican Party" category. To be honest, I have no idea how the current party came into existence. It's in direct opposition to the old party values.
BTW, Teddy Roosevelt was fuckin' awesome. Definitely one of the craziest, coolest, and most interesting presidents ever.
