Back in the 90's, my mom couldn't tell the difference between a Super Nes and an Nes. When Gears of War came out, my friends couldn't tell the improvement between that and Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. I'm willing to bet that if I played Tomb Raider on the Xbox 360 and then showed them Tomb Raider on the PS4, virtually nobody I know would even notice that I changed consoles--not even my sis and her husband and they owned the Wii, PS3, and 360 (all of which are gathering dust except when my brother in law plays Madden for a few weeks every year). It's gonna take more than graphics to sell consoles once the initial hardcore userbase runs dry. I think it will be like trying to sell Blu-Ray to people that were happy with DVDs. |
pretty much my thought... beside us and people like us around forums and blogs and all.... nobody is that big on resolution past 720p just yet.... heck even me since I have a nice soundsystem (about 6 years now) I'd advise anybody with the right amount of money to get a good sound system over a better TV.... I'd take a good action game with good sound localisation in 5.1 and 900p over one at 1080p and bad sound localization any day....
when I got it racing games and FPS got a totally new dimension, I could litteraly feel where things were coming from.... the sensorial upgrade beats any pixel pushing I have seen between low HD and full HD especially with upscaller.... now don't get me wrong I'd take a 80" 4K screen the day console will push that many pixel.... but the fight between upscalled 720p and 1080p is really a nerdy one with really little public at the end....
