My parents/ sister /relatives couldn't tell you the difference on a movie if I didn't tell them to look for it.... especially if they are upscaled... and they are sitting at a good distance from the TV and a shit load of mainstream people are like them... 720p is HD btw the lowest setting but it is HD.... now between SD and HD more people do see the difference... |
Back in the 90's, my mom couldn't tell the difference between a Super Nes and an Nes. When Gears of War came out, my friends couldn't tell the improvement between that and Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. I'm willing to bet that if I played Tomb Raider on the Xbox 360 and then showed them Tomb Raider on the PS4, virtually nobody I know would even notice that I changed consoles--not even my sis and her husband and they owned the Wii, PS3, and 360 (all of which are gathering dust except when my brother in law plays Madden for a few weeks every year).
It's gonna take more than graphics to sell consoles once the initial hardcore userbase runs dry. I think it will be like trying to sell Blu-Ray to people that were happy with DVDs.
