America can't really afford to be isolationist as it was in the past, for better or worse as a great power to protect it's interests it will get into the affairs of other countries. However America could use a policy of non-interventionism which would steer them clear of easily preventable conflicts such as Libya and Syria. Anything is better than prolonging wars in countries that pose no real threat to America 2. More or less a consquence of the government type of the United States, but yes currently many grid locks exist. 3. Agreed. 4. Modern industralization is always a good idea, however it is an extremely expensive process and something has to be done about preventing companies from outsourcing their workforces to cheaper labour again without harming the American people such as making a compromise that would allow companies to pay Americans barely anything. 5. More or less what I said for 4. 6. I agree but this would have to probably lead to more government involvement and taxes, which a significant amount of people are not too happy about. All this needs is a change in mindset, surely if they saw there taxes give them something necessary in return then they would support stuff like free healthcare (it costs far less per head this way). However it's likely no significant tax increase would be neccessary to fund this, as the military funding would be slashed first. The other thing would be to prevent tax avoidance which occurs when companies and the rich move there money to offshore accounts. 7. I don't know too much about this, sorry. ~http://www.beggarscanbechoosers.com/2011/09/america-prospered-in-1950s-with-91.html ~http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2013-01-02/1950s-tax-fantasy-is-a-republican-nightmare Just to give some insight to it I think the problem is the country is more or less stuck in a catch-22 situation. People want lower taxes, and the debt to decrease, to decrease the military budget but also defend America's allies, less government intervention but also less mega-corporations and lower unemployment along with that the political parties and representatives are reluctant to have a middle ground. Unfortunately the world don't work like that. So a compromise is needed. |
