What made Mandela so notable was that he did come out of jail and say that violence was not the answer. Assuming Apartheid was going to end in some mass slaughter was as commonplace as assuming the nuclear holocaust was coming back in the 70s and 80s. That he turned away from this is the virtue of the accomplishment. Why do folks like Yasser Arafat get the Nobel Peace Prize?

I just do not see how anyone can defend Mandela after the actions he has done
