1- More control of the population you mean, there used to average 200 hangings a year at the turn of century accounted mostly for mob lynching? Is that control that people like you want?

What made Mandela so notable was that he did come out of jail and say that violence was not the answer. Assuming Apartheid was going to end in some mass slaughter was as commonplace as assuming the nuclear holocaust was coming back in the 70s and 80s. That it didn't end that way is pretty breathtaking.
