General - Is there a god? - View Post

The bible was made from many disparaging scriptures, thus some were deemed "blasphemous", others were significantly altered and a few were left intact. Either way, there were significant changes to the authors original intent. Oh, and all this happened hundreds of years after Christ's death, after Christianity itself had changed radically.

Someone said something about the Bible as a historical text. Anyway, the Bible is the only source of many "historical" events, like the Jews exodus from Egypt. With an event as major as that, you would expect some corroborating sources to exist, but they dont. Not even jewish or egyptian records of such an event exist.

During the renissance, handing out loans was considered a sin by the catholic church. Now, you may argue that the text remained the same, but the fact of the matter is the interpretaion of the bible has changed frequently, and radically. You may claim this is human failing, but if this is the devine word of god than there should be no room for misunderstanding.

Anyway, the bible can be read however you want, because its soo ambiguous. Beyond that, there are many instances of scripture promoting violence, slavery, as seen in these examples;

"hile the Israelites were camped at Acacia, some of the men defiled themselves by sleeping with the local Moabite women. These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, and soon the Israelites were feasting with them and worshiping the gods of Moab. Before long Israel was joining in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the LORD's anger to blaze against his people. The LORD issued the following command to Moses: "Seize all the ringleaders and execute them before the LORD in broad daylight, so his fierce anger will turn away from the people of Israel." So Moses ordered Israel's judges to execute everyone who had joined in worshiping Baal of Peor. Just then one of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman into the camp, right before the eyes of Moses and all the people, as they were weeping at the entrance of the Tabernacle. When Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest saw this, he jumped up and left the assembly. Then he took a spear and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man's body and into the woman's stomach. So the plague against the Israelites was stopped, but not before 24,000 people had died." (Numbers 25:1-9 NLT)

"When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment." (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

@Wareagle; 1. Science has demonstratable proof and mountains of evidence, where as all religions have very little of either. Believing in science requires the same amount of faith as trusting the news since both have cold, hard, irrefutable facts.

2. The concept of evolution has remained intact since Darwin first developed it. The only thing thats changed is evolutions mechanics, which change as our understanding of science becomes better. By contrast, Chrisitanity has remained rigid, with people trying to use pseudoscience to explain things like "young earth", ect. Basically, science is fluid and adapts as our understanding of this world increases whereas religion remains rigid and tries to conform understanding to its ancient scripture.
