Yeah...but in 2000 when the PS2 launched, Japan had ~126.92 million people, and when the PS4 launched in the US, we're talking ~313.9 million.

Even if the PS4 doesn't sell 1 million this week, you know it will in Japan once FFXV releases. It's only a matter of time.

You actually have to ask why population matters with regards to sales figures?  That's a question that really requires an answer?  Come on...

You compared the US population to japan's population which means nothing.

Maybe we should look at the xbone's japan numbers when it launches? I'm pretty sure it'll barely crack the single digits.

You compared PS4's day 1 numbers to PS2's first 2 days, when the population disparity is just shy of 3:1.  You can compare the numbers all you like, still doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  To this day, no one has matched the PS2's first week totals, In Japan.  Outside of Japan, there are more people and arguably a larger market, so it's unsurprising to see a hyped machine with a decent price point match/exceed that.

EDIT: I guess our point is moot, and the 980K figure is incorrect anyway.
