Blu Ray is a niche market because the vast majority dont give a shit or notice the difference in resolution. I certainly dont see the difference between upscaled DVD and BR which is part of the reason I dont buy the format. Im sure its better and preferred but near the bottom of things needed when it comes to entertainment. Sony fanboys wouldnt care about it and Xbox fanboys would care if the consoles were reversed. Gamers dont even care as seen by the lack of interest in PC gaming compared to consoles.

It's not that they don't give a shit, it's more of a ...

a) Trade off between convenience and quality

b) Tradeoff between price and quality

c) Being aware and adapted to the enhanced quality.

Most people tend to prefer convenience and price over quality (me included) but the extend to which this happens depends on people. To me, for movies to be seen on a desktop PC, DVD quality used to be enough a few years ago; but now my brain has adapted to the higher quality, I demand at least 720p now. And If I am gonna watch it on a 32+ inch TV, and if the movie is full of sci-fi fx, it definitely needs to be 1080p. But if you'd asked me 5 years ago, I'd say who the hell needs full HD!?
