The PSP also had a big appeal in that it was a universal media device. You could play your music on the move and watch films on it before mobile phones were doing this. iPods etc were also a lot more expensive adding to the PSP's value factor. |
Exactly, the PSP was hugely marketed as a multimedia portable game console, something that not many other portable devices could do at the time. It was like the PS2 which was marketed for having a DVD player, something that was expensive as a standalone player back in 2000.
Also, the PSP had major games from release. The Vita only appeals mostly to a certain market, like the eastern market. Not saying that Vita hasn´t good western games, but it doesn´t have games that appeal to the masses there.
