Two things:
1). Sony isn't dead yet, there are efforts going on to right the ship and there seems to be an awareness that certain divisions of the company are dragging it down big style, particularly TVs and laptops
2). Like you said, PS is doing well and has huge brand recognition - if the shit hits the fan and Sony do under, there will be plenty of people happy enough to buy up SCE and keep it going - PlayStation is too valuable a name to be allowed simply to die
