I have no significant other, but I'll still answer.
A couple should have similar entertainment activities, so they would be able to do things together. I couldn't see a real relationship working if a guy hates movies, and his girlfriend or wife watches movies all the time. Religion is also important. A legit Christian guy is never going to date an atheist and vice versa.
As for personality, I think they should be different. You can't really bond with anyone and except them for who they are if they are almost a girl/boy version of you. This ties into the entertainment activities thing. I don't think it would work out if you do absolutely everything together.
