Like I said, it can happened the other way around. I remember Skyward Sword having around 200k pre-orders on VGC and the U.S first week sales were 600k.

True but DKC isn't exactly meant for the "hardcore" nintendo fans like zelda ... 

And who do you think pre-orders video games? 

If a "hardcore" game like Zelda had such a big difference, then a "casual" game like DKC should have an even bigger difference. For example, when Just Dance was more popular, on VGC the games had at max 100k pre-orders, and as we know, those games had insanely high first week sales.

The problem is casuals also depend on the "image" of the console too. Despite the fact that the PS4 lacks something innovative as the WII mote it's still more popular than it's competing consoles because of "image".
