I was wondering this myself with the PS4 JP launch coming up. Clearly stock issues cannot be behind it so not really sure.
It seems like Microsoft is playing conservatively or defensively essentially conceding 10-20% of the global market for 2014 to Sony. I know those markets won't make the difference overall, but this puts Microsoft in the position of finding a path to first place even harder. I guess the US alone can keep them in the picture for many third parties, but this is not setting themselves up well for the coming years.
