The Locust win for one reason... The Krill. Those things are all sorts of pain in the ass. Not to mention the Corpsers, Berzerkers, etc.

I agree that the Krill are pretty badass, but then I must throw a counter-point in by talking about the Chimerian Spires that release the thousands of bugs that crawl inside and infect humans.

I like that there are tons of variety in the Chimera and I think they look more vicious with their eyes and teeth. The Locust are more muscular and such.

However, the one thing that pisses me off about the Chimera (and probably the Locust too) is that there is WAY too much mystery about them. Every weird thing about the Chimera were simply explained with something like "We have no idea" or "Chalk another one up to the mystery of the Chimera". With the Locust, my problem was that the story of Gears didn't really start out very strongly and it didn't really tell me that much. I felt like that akward guy sitting nearby while you're having a conversation with your friend and you don't know if that guy is trying to listen to you or not.

That didn't bother me at all in Gears. I didn't care where the Locust came from because the game started out and you immediately knew that everything went to shit and that the Locust were the problem.

I'm very much of the opinion that in storytelling, the less you force the viewer to partake in history that he or she may not care about, the better. Leave something to the imagination. In the second and third installments, I will want to know more about the Locust but in the first game, leaving much of it to mystery is perfectly acceptable to me.

After all, would you have wanted to know about the Emperor, Vader's history, and the birth of the Stormtrooper all in the first Star Wars? Hell no. All you needed to know was that there was a bad guy, lots of crazy shit was happening, an Empire had formed recently, and that there was something weird called "the Force". IMO, it made for a pretty decent movie, though definitely not one that challenged the grey matter.

It didnt' have to totally force it on me, but I would have liked a little something more.

Actually, I would have liked to know about the Stormtrooper and Vader's history.... Wait, that's why I wanted to see Episode 1, 2, and 3 when they came out (not saying the first movies, or Gears of War for that matter, was bad). While I can't say I really liked the special effects that much, that's a different issue and the story is still there. Does this mean that there will have to be a Gears prequel now?
