The last guardian is not a series but maybe are considering the ICO games a series, and you don't know if it hold relation to ICO or Shadow of the colossus. That's why maybe they didn't call it "franchise" or "IP".

They would have use better wording then instead being so vague at risk of "disappointing" people. If they say series, a series should be. Like Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect or others people have been mentioning here.
