So far it seems pretty muted here in Japan. There is certainly signage in every game store. In the big Sofmap in Osaka's Den-Den Town (Akihabara of Osaka) on Saturday the biggest display out front was devoted to Project Diva for the PS3 and Vita. The PS4 display was smaller and off to the side a little.
At the Joshin PlayStation Concept store in Den-Den Town they have the only demo station of a PS4 that I have seen so far. Playable demo kiosks in stores are much rarer here. They have two demo kiosks and the larger, nicer one with a couch in front of it was still devoted to a PS3 and Vita TV set up. No one was playing either demo.
Most stores are still taking preorders and are advertising that units will be available at 7:00am on 2/22.
Launches are always exciting, so I plan on heading out on Saturday to check out the scene. The Japanese are also notoriously difficult to anticipate, so exciting times are ahead either way! I think the biggest potential downfall is that the launch lineup is very Western-centric. The preorder displays feature the two Japanese titles front and center, but there is no denying that there really isn't a big Japanese title at launch.
