If the X1 fails, most gamers will just migrate to whichever console is the defacto leader with the largest library of games, in this case the PS4.

Almost nobody interested in an X1 would buy a Wii U, because the Wii U has none of big AAA 3rd party franchises except for watered down ports of the current-gen versions of the games.

Fact is though, the X1 isn't going anywhere... right now it's almost double the price of the Wii U and it's still outselling it 2:1 in the US... as soon as major titles like Titanfall start hitting and M$ releases Kinect-less bundles at $399, Sony will have lost its advantage in the US. Europe and Japan are different situations because they are both Sony territory and Japan doesn't buy videogame consoles not made by Japanese companies.

Actually there is hope for Wii U: users wanting a failing console, if not able to buy a XBOne anymore, could be willing to buy another failing console.

They'll always have Vita too, the OG failure of this generation

Yep, it sprang to my mind, but this would imply switching from a home failure to a portable one. But maybe the choice could depend on regional tastes: XBOne's Japanese "orphans" would prefer PSV, while the others Wii U.

Edit: Ooops! I was forgetting Vita TV and Ouya. Then you're right, there would be other choices of home failures, so Wii U would stay d0m3d.
