Sad thing is, PC-Gaming is very much profitable. It generates as much dollares as all three console-plattforms combined. Begs the question, why are we not getting any superb superfantastic "nextgen" games for this plattform? Why no grand strategy games, RPGs, Simulations and FPS'? The conclusion is as simple as it can get. PC-Gamers apparently don't want this kind of games. Otherwise it wouldn't be a hassle producing games on a regular basis ment to be played on high end machines.

PC gamers tend to have different tastes than console gamers.

For instance, despite PC gamers undying love for our lord saviour, GabeN... Left 4 Dead 2 sold better on consoles than PC, yet Portal 2 sold better on PC than Console.
So it goes to show there is a shift in demographics there despite both being "FPS".
In general, Puzzle(Portal/Sanctum etc'), MOBA/MMO(League of Legends/Dota/WoW), RTS(StarCraft/Civilization), Simulation(The Sims/Sim City.) tend to be the PC's stronghold.

However with that in mind, Publishers have historically called all PC gamers pirates, they ignored the market and because of such Kickstarter came along, suddenly the franchises/games that publishers deemed "to risky" are now being made, without the publishers, PC gamers suddenly get more control.
A-La, Star Citizen, Planetary Annihialation, amongst others.
So we do have some big/strong AAA exclusives coming, just not from the greedy publishers. :)
