I can see a lot of people sticking with just ps4 this generation and also a smaller group both ps4 and wii u. Xbox one has the difficult position of being inferior to ps4 in everyway except for the kinect functionality that most people aren't bothered about. Like Nintendo, Microsoft have to sell the xbox one on the exclusive game experiences they can release. The trouble is for Microsoft this is much more difficult as Nintendo can sell their console at a budget price but Microsoft can not. If Nintendo sell a Mariokart bundle wii u for £169.99 this christmas its a price point many can afford but a Xbox one at £379 with a game like Titanfall is not. For me the xbox one needs to be something like £249 with a game before I'll purchase. It's quite possible the ps4 will be available for £299 with a game this christmas. Not only that but buying a xbox one requires a subscription for full functionality. This makes it a poor choice for a second console. I won't be subscribing to xbox live so I'm limited to single player experiences which again knocks down the value of the console. I love gaming but its difficult for me to justify an xbox one. My next console purchase will be ps4 when there is a wider choice of games.

I think there is a strong possibility that the wii u will outsell the xbox one but not for the reasons this thread suggests. I don't believe the consoles compete with each other directly.
