Pretty sure the deal was with respawn, which needed the funding.  People are pretending that this wasn't a mutually beneficial agreement between Microsoft and Respawn (and EA I suppose).

Titanfall isn't guarnateed to make back the money MS invested in it.  I wouldn't even call this a money hat, but rather an investment agreement.  Now, COD timed DLC you could consider a money hat, since that is a proven IP already.

Hindsight might seems to be 20/20, but there might not even BE a Titanfall right now if the studio didn't get the funding it needed.


The exclusivity agreement was actually between ea and microsoft, not respawn.


Correct, and Respawn signed a partnership with EA , which means they received funding from EA.
