Realistically, Mario Kart 8 is the final weapon WiiU has. If that won't work, Smash won't either and the console will permanently stay doomed I'm afraid.
Being #1 in pre-orders right now is good of course, but this was just day 1. Amazon bases that ranking off the best sales in last couple hours/last day (or something like that), so I wouldn't be cheering too loud just yet.
