What's up with all these localizations recently? Sony pushing japanese developers into localizing instead of supporting the console in the West by their own studios or other western developers? |
Something like BlazBlue makes sense, since they're bringing the PS3 version over already so it's literally just a case of sending the translated text to Arc Systems to code into the game.
It's the stuff like Mind=0 that makes less sense.
And yeah, I've been saying for a while that it feels like Sony have had a hand in this. Idk. On the one hand, these localizations have been popping up left, right and centre out of nowhere and Vita's situation in the west hasn't changed. In fact, it's only gotten worse. Feels like Sony incentive to me.
But on the other hand, there are a lot more Japanese games on Vita these days. And quite a few are multi-plat with PS3 (Dynasty Warriors/Atelier/BlazBlue) making bringing the Vita versions across easier. And the other ones - Sorcery Saga; Akiba's Trip; Neptunia; Conception 2 etc.; are by Japanese devs who are probably trying to push their games in the west so are offering cheap licencing fees making them attractive to teams like Aksys/Atlus/NISA/XSEED etc.
Not that I'm complaining. If they keep localizing them, I'll keep buying them.
