Gaming still has an odd faux pas about it. Biggest entertainment in the UK but if you said in a conversation to random people 'I play such and such a game'. They will most likely think you a loser. I never ask people why they think this however, I do throw a few comparisons at them. I says "Some people choose to read or watch TV, I play games. No difference in the fact we are all just sitting there doing something we enjoy." This is rare mind you, most my friends/social circles are fine with it.
This said, it's the same for comics (larger infact if you consider what Big Bang Theory has done), I read comics but I actually don't usually tell people outright because of the image that comes with it. I generally don't display my fanboyism because of this faus pas about it. Then again I don't like comic book readers that are all nerdy about it (collect figurines/cosplay/even t-shirts).
