Hardly. It wasn't a colossus success like the PS2, but it was non the less still a success in sales. Would you say the X1's launch has been a failure since it lost it's US market share advantage? Of course not, it still sold great regardless to the competition.

It could be argued the 360 was actually a failure for not being able to beat the PS3 and Wii despite the year head start, fuck ups from competition and billions in marketing. I don't personally agree with that kind of argument, but it follows the same line of thought as what you said.

I would agree the PS3 was a failure in it's loss of market share, and that was Sony's own fault, but it wasn't an "absolute failure" as a product.
