I don't overhype stuff, because you'll either be disappointed when you finally play the game or you'll enjoy it somewhat, but overrate by blindly ignoring its faults.
The other reason I don't overhype games is because I'm cheap and I don't want to hyped up for a game that I'm usually going to be waiting a long time before I own so it can drop in price before I purchase it. I used to buy so many games I wanted to play day one, but have since turned very patient and have waited over a year for games I was interested in to drop in price.
