I think it depends on which console is selling better at the moment.
I remember lots of Nintendo fans and not so many Sony fans back in the early 7th gen periods, and then when ps3 started to pick up I started seeing more sony fans.
I think it changes basically cause people like to laugh at others when their console of choice is selling better than the other ones
