What in your opinion is the root of the problem of third party games selling notably worse on Nintendo consoles then? And mind you, as is shown in the article this happened on the GC as well, so the "inferior port" argument, doesn't explain it.

Too many damn good Nintendo games so one has a limited budget to spend on third party games.  Microsoft and Sony make system sellers but they don't make as many games as Nintendo.  So more people buying first party games means less people buying third party games.  A lot of people live on a limited budget.
