Heres my alternate reality scenario
PS3 uses DVD instead of Bluray and something more cost efficient/developer friendly than the Cell processor.
360 delayed to prevent Red Ring of Death incident and Kinect never released (instead available at Xbox One launch)
Both release Holiday 2006 at $399 with equal power and same HDD space. In this scenario I believe PS3 would have dominated, instead of if being 50/50 in terms of sales I think it would be more like 70/30 in PS3 favor.
Also in this scenario I believe the generation would have been much shorter since 360 didnt have Kinect and PS3 didnt have such a huge price to come down from so they each would have peaked earlier. Probably PS4/One would have released holiday 2011.
