So NAT-1 is not NAT at all ;) Or do you mean DMZ? And even this is not NAT...

NAT-2 is no issue?! By default all ports are blocked on a NAT-Router from WAN-side, so no translation from outside to inside ports (intended ports, that is). This should be the default config (unless it also does UPnP...).

NAT-3? This is the default - of course ports are blocked by default, one has to manually configure them, if the service tells you which you should open.

If your router blocks any port used by PS3 then it is NAT-3.

The default is NAT-2 if you have uPnP enabled in your router... it will open the port and close after the use.

NAT-1 is when there is no router... just the moden cable direct connect to the PS3 for example... if there is a router it is NAT-2 (no issue) or NAT-3 (issue).

NAT-3 is hard to happen... only if your router didn't works with uPnP... so you will need to open the port manually until get NAT-2.

It is really only a status in how your connection with internet is being done.
