Yeah I think the problem is most developers aren't willing to delay a game 6 months just so that the PS3 version can look as good as the 360 one. Most developers simply don't have money to burn like that. It's too bad the PS3 isn't more like a PC/360 so developers didn't have to waste money like that.

 1.  A developer only needs to spend significant extra time once optimizing an engine for PS3.  Subsequent games for each developer will be much easier.

 2. Spend a little (not necessarily 6 months) extra time to make the PS3 version look as good as 360's, spend a little more and make the PS3 version look better.  Ah, the possibilities of CELL.

 3. You assume that 360 is the lead console for development.  In a lot of cases it's now switched to PS3.  Lately, PS3 versions have had the slight edge on 360 ones.  The gulf will only increase.

 4.  It's too bad the 360 exists.  We'd be seeing much more beautiful games if developers could just devote themselves to the intricacies of the stronger hardware, PS3, rather than say, bitch-ass Valve bitching about CELL architecture and then releasing a game (Orange Box) that didn't really use the SPE's at all.  Carmack should and does eat his own ass.
