The first was good but it was the first of it's kind and was limited in terms of stages, special attacks and features. The second was by far the best. It has more characters and better attacks, more stages and the engine and controls were great. The third and fourth went to a different studio with a new engine and I couldn't get into the 3rd one having played the second for so long. The 4th was a improvement but not as good as two. Small Brawl was alright, different with them being remote controlled cars but meh.
I haven't played the most recent entry, Black was ok but I didn't like the storyline.
